Instagram's standalone video editing app is now available on macOS, where you can plug in your AI agent of choice to assemble your videos. Instagram's Matthew Simari, head of product management for Edits, said in an interview with The Verge, "One of the things we're releasing with Edits Desktop is a MCP for all the tools within Edits Desktop. You can use any agent you want, you can use Muse - we would love you to - but really any agent you want of [your] choice, to edit, tweak, work with your video."

Instagram’s top boss is missing the point about AI on the platform

Image
What is an authentic photo? A couple of weeks ago, Adam Mosseri posted to his grid . In a series of messages, Instagram's top exec laid out his concerns for the platform in the coming year, largely around AI. The post was equal parts Working Through It, a sounding of alarms, and a rallying cry to creators who use the platform: AI is about to be everywhere on Instagram, and the best way to stand out from "inauthentic" content is to be an authentic, original voice. Meta’s ad targeting systems can be eerily precise, sometimes showing you things that you feel like you’ve only discussed in a verbal conversation and would only be possible for Meta to know about if it was listening through a device’s microphone. It’s a perception that Meta has been trying to push back on for years: In 2016, the company, then known as Facebook, said that it “does not use your phone’s microphone to inform ads or to change what you see in News Feed.” In a 2018 Senate hearing, CEO Mark Zuckerberg responded to the question on the topic with a direct “no.” In a support document titled “are Facebook and Instagram listening to your conversations without yo...
