All the news from Meta Connect 2025

Meta’s annual Connect conference is happening on September 17th and 18th, and it seems like there’s going to be a lot of focus on smart glasses.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s Wednesday evening keynote will discuss “the latest on AI glasses,” the company says. Rumors and a video leak from Meta already indicate that we might see Meta launch glasses that have a display on one lens and that are controlled with a neural wristband, as well as wraparound Oakley smart glasses with a camera on the nose bridge.

The company also says that Zuckerberg will lay out “Meta’s vision for artificial intelligence and the metaverse,” so there should be some non-smart glasses news to look forward to, too.

Zuckerberg’s keynote begins at 8PM ET / 5PM PT, and we’ll be covering the keynote and major announcements from the show live. You can keep up with all of our coverage from the event right here.

Instagram’s top boss is missing the point about AI on the platform

Image
What is an authentic photo? A couple of weeks ago, Adam Mosseri posted to his grid . In a series of messages, Instagram's top exec laid out his concerns for the platform in the coming year, largely around AI. The post was equal parts Working Through It, a sounding of alarms, and a rallying cry to creators who use the platform: AI is about to be everywhere on Instagram, and the best way to stand out from "inauthentic" content is to be an authentic, original voice. "Everything that made creators matter - the ability to be real, to connect, to have a voice that couldn't be faked - is now accessible to anyone with the right tools," he says. The people want gritty realness … Read the full story at The Verge. * This article was originally published here

Adam Mosseri’s ‘we’re totally not spying on you’ video is raising a lot of questions

Image
Today, the same day that Meta announced that it will soon use your AI chats to personalize the ads it shows you , Instagram head Adam Mosseri made a “myth busting” video attempting to set the record straight on a persistent rumor about Meta: “I swear, we do not listen to your microphone,” he says . Meta’s ad targeting systems can be eerily precise, sometimes showing you things that you feel like you’ve only discussed in a verbal conversation and would only be possible for Meta to know about if it was listening through a device’s microphone. It’s a perception that Meta has been trying to push back on for years: In 2016, the company, then known as Facebook, said that it “does not use your phone’s microphone to inform ads or to change what you see in News Feed.” In a 2018 Senate hearing, CEO Mark Zuckerberg responded to the question on the topic with a direct “no.” In a support document titled “are Facebook and Instagram listening to your conversations without yo...

Instagram is once again cribbing from competitors like Snapchat and BeReal with a new photo-sharing format it calls "Instants," which are ephemeral photos that you can't edit and that you can only share with your close friends or followers that follow you back. Instants are available globally beginning on Wednesday as a feature in the inbox in the Instagram app and as a separate app that's now in testing in select countries. To access Instants from the Instagram app, go to your DM inbox and look in the bottom-right corner for an icon or a stack of photos. After you post a photo, your friends can emoji react to it and send a reply to your DM … Read the full story at The Verge. * This article was originally published here
