The data, which was first reported on by CNBC , suggests that Threads will have far fewer monthly active users than Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok by the end of this year, but it may still have a chance to close the gap with X. GLAAD report says Meta allows anti-trans hate to ‘flourish’ on its platforms

Image: Vjeran Pavic GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ+ media advocacy group, claims that Meta’s content moderation system is allowing an “epidemic of anti-transgender hate” to flourish on its platform. A new report published by the group says Meta has allowed dozens of anti-trans posts — including ones that call for violence against private individuals — to stay online. The organization says that LGBTQ+ people “experience an increasing number of well-documented real-world harms” due to “propaganda campaigns, driven by the anti-LGBTQ extremists that Meta allows to flourish on its platforms.” The report documents several examples of anti-trans content posted to Facebook, Instagram, and Threads between June 2023 and March of this year, all of which GLAAD reported via Meta’s “standard platform reporting systems.” Some of the posts used hateful anti-trans slurs, while others — including an Instagram post depicting a person being beaten with stones that have been re...

Meta will require labels on more AI-generated content

Illustration by Nick Barclay / The Verge Meta is updating its AI-generated content policy and will add a “Made with AI” label beginning in May, the company announced . The policy will apply to content on Instagram, Facebook, and Threads. Acknowledging that its current policy is “too narrow,” Meta says it will start labeling more video, audio, and image content as being AI-generated. Labels will be applied either when users disclose the use of AI tools or when Meta detects “industry standard AI image indicators,” though the company didn’t provide more detail about its detection system. The changes are informed by recommendations and feedback from Meta’s Oversight Board and update the manipulated media policy created in 2020.
